It is awful to think
That we can be so cruel
The slaughter of the innocent
The death camps
The deadly duel
The Lord knew from the very start
How cruel we can be
And warned against all violence
Solves nothing don’t you see
How then to engage the world
How to solve the pain
Let the blessings of the Lord
Bless you once again
Blessed are the poor in spirit…
Blessed are the gentle…
Blessed are those who mourn…
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst…
Blessed are the merciful…
Blessed are the pure in heart…
Blessed are the peacemakers…
Blessed are those who are persecuted…
Live these words
And live by them
And bring the world to light
