I was baptised by a Father Hope
On Candlemass Day I’m told
The year was Nineteen forty-seven
The winter very cold
Two weeks old I was that day
A helpless babe just then
But the arms that held me loved me so
No better start ye ken
So baptism means nowt to me
No memory of it you see
But the love that nurtured my living days
Always stays with me
Baptised in love has been my life
Right from the very start
Mother father siblings dog
All have grown my heart
That makes me responsible
With duties to perform
To share with those less fortunate
The love that’s been my norm
For love is the purpose of our life
From the day that we were born
And I must share my abundance
With the lonely and forlorn
