‘Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words will never pass away.’
Those words appealed to my father
For we like things that last
Things we can rely on
In a world that goes too fast
The solid earth the sky of blue
The water in the stream
The things that last forever
More constant than a dream
And so as life was ending
And his span of days had run
He sat there ruminating
On the things that he had done
Looking out that window
The man with far seeing eyes
Who followed his horses and drank his tea
And then to my surprise
Out came words of wisdom
Gospel words to book
Apropos of nothing
And then he gave a look
I smiled to hear his comment
I revered the old man
How lucky was I to have him
As faithful as the sun
