Days Of Ease

The day the doctor told him

He sighed with great relief

I think you’ve done enough, Michael

Time has been a thief

My father’s long life working

Mines and war and mine

Had taken its toll it’s time to rest

Go sit in the sunshine

Today I felt a bit like that

My leg gave out on me

Half way to the Coop

Crippled suddenly

If you cannot do it now

You no longer have to try

The days of obligation

Are finally done bye bye

We try to do the best we can

From early days a child

Like Lucas setting out at school

And Noah not far behind

They won’t catch me I’m down the road

My race is nearly done

I’ll sit back now and watch them grow

Yes my time in the sun
