When people place their trust in you
It forms your very soul
Their confidence their tears are gifts
They form your priestly role
For thirty years I played that part
Receiver of their souls
They talked to me and trusted me
Their lives in me like scrolls
It’s in me still the treasure
Of human hearts confided
I know of human feeling
So many tales abided
A boy I was when first ordained
But I became a father
When people turned to me for help
And shared the human saga
Now in these my later years
I share words on a page
To share what others gave to me
To bring wisdom to my age
Not just the things that I have done
But what others did for me
To help me end up as I am
Content at peace and free
