Glory

His name was Danny Blanchflower

My father rated him

And so in turn I became a fan

He played for Aston Villa

And then transferred to Spurs

And that is when the fantasy began

Spurs they won the Double

League and Cup you know

Blanchflower was the captain

Led the glory show

And then he spun his wisdom

And taught the world to smile

Football is not just about winning

It’s about doing things in style

The word he used was glory

The brilliance of the thing

The wonder of a lovely game

 A spectacle to sing

There’s a certain way of being

Of moving in this world

It’s the only way to play the game

So listen you’ve been told

And Jesus speaks of glory

As his days draw near their end

His life has been a glory

He shares now with his friends

Let your life too be glory

Live it with some style

Love for one another

Makes our life worthwhile

+ Danny Blanchflower, footballer, once said, ‘The great fallacy is that the game is first and last about winning. It’s nothing of the kind. The game is about glory. It is about doing things in style, with a flourish, about going out and beating the other lot, not waiting for them to die of boredom.’
