My father spoke Gospel words to me
One quiet afternoon inside his house
Looking out the window from his cosy chair
He suddenly pronounced as with a papal air
‘Heaven and earth will pass away
But my words will never pass away’
And then he looked at me with a steady look
We said no more
There was no follow up
He spoke those words to me
And I accepted them
As Gospel for my life
Today I remember them
Today when every death we can recall
Speaks of a life so lived to save us all
The Lord appeared to some
And not to all
For news is carried by word of mouth
I speak and you recall
I said these words to you
To share belief
Our day will come
As for the repentant thief
