A young lad now in prison
Has seen nothing but the dark
Abuse and angers all his life
Have left their vicious mark
But nineteen months in prison
Have given him thinking time
Now his conscience surfacing
Has admitted to his crime
Jesus cures a man born blind
Takes him by the hand
Leads him to a quiet spot
To better understand
Gradually his eyes adjust
Unaccustomed to the light
Finally he sees quite clear
Much to his delight
The darkness of our hearts and minds
Is very slow to clear
Our sullen moods our selfishness
Costs us very dear
But the inner voice keeps calling us
Turn now to the light
Once you see – life’s wonderful
Morning noon and night
