The clock says it is morning time
But the sky says it’s still night
These winter days are heavy now
And sparing with the light
And each day now arriving
Like the turning of a page
And old friends I have loved a while
Quietly leave the stage
I wake up in the darkness
And feel at first dismayed
Is it the winter starkness?
That causes hope to fade
I stir myself to action
Get up and dress and wash
And orange juice reaction
Says give this day a bash
Saint Peter in his Roman days
When all was woe around
Reminded fellow travellers
Of the solid faith he’d found
There is a hope within you
Let others see it shine
We all need light to travel by
Why don’t you now share mine
