Siesta has come back into my life
As a two year old I used to have a nap
One day I came downstairs again
No knickers did mum see
‘Todot der knickers’
A famous phrase with me
At seminary
Afternoons were dead
A quiet time miles from anywhere
I wrote a public lecture
‘Death in the Afternoon’
Hemingway had bulls
I just snooze
In sunny Rome
Siesta was the thing
Morning lectures evenings busy too
Shutters on the windows
Bar the midday blaze
Snooze away a happy thing to do
Now it’s my age
That calls the tune
Energy graph dips down in the afternoon
I’ve woken up just now
Two hours have just slipped by
It’s what it is
No howling at the moon
