Once A Catholic

I was orphaned
I was exiled at 11
Sounds dramatic
Hear me out just now
The Church put me in seminary
Cut off from my home
From daily parental guidance
And from love

They thought to do
A holy thing for God
It was foolish
It was heartless
It was cruel
To take a child
From a loving happy home
Programme him
Use him as for fuel

Human seed
Celibate system
Cut off from the world
A life repressed
In later years
I sit and watch a film
I might have guessed

Soon they’ll write
The history books and see
With eyes so clear
The folly that was done
All in the name of God
And nowhere common sense
Where life’s repressed
It bursts out
In the end
