Wimbledon’s a wonder
Green and pleasant land
Boys and girls all dressed in white
Tennis ball in hand
Racket at the ready
Umpire calls out ‘play’
Spectators all we settle down
Soaking up the day

I wasn’t great at tennis
Didn’t have the knack
But more than that
I didn’t like
The idea of striking back
This one on one I’ll beat you
Wasn’t in my game
I admire the skill the giftedness
The cleverness all the same

I do not have that killer gene
For hunting down the foe
Just like chess that thinking game
More than I want to know
Give me a football any day
And put me in a team
And let the game of glory be
My greatest ever dream
