Money Talks

Mark 12:38-44

The more we have
The more we have to lose
The heart grows tight
We need to turn the screws
Lock all away
Keep it safe and sound
Obsessed with having
Money underground

Driving cars make us all go faster
Used to speed
We cannot get enough
Impatient of delay
We court disaster
And traffic jams are things
We cannot master

The widow’s mite
A timely lesson here
While scribes in flowing robes
And all the gear
Esteemed by public show
They flash the cash
And quietly consume
Financial flow

The well to do
Have little need of God
Or thought for others
Standing in the street
They little understand
How fragile their command
How good it is
To simply meet and greet
