Water comes from a tap
My food comes from a shop
Heating warms my house
A roof I have on top
My mother’s home was simpler
Water came from a river
Food came from the garden
Turf fire solved the shiver
But in Turkey and in Syria
All has been destroyed
Water food and shelter
They live out in the cold
Today at Mass we read again
Of Cain and Abel brothers
How jealousy destroyed a heart
One brother killed another
Am I my brother’s keeper?
Cain famously inquired
Oh yes you are – believe it
Then life will be inspired
