Britain was an object of desire
The fair and pleasant land
Invasion from the continent
Romans held command
Then the Anglo-Saxons
Viking settlement
Alfred and the burning cakes
And then the Normans sent
People are still invading
Could be a compliment
People seeking paradise
On the coast of Kent
Away from troubled countries
Away from poverty
Risking all in little boats
To find a liberty
Meanwhile native settlers
Argue among our selves
We cannot organise our world
In have and have not hells
The drivers of efficiency
Want to make the case
But like those driver only trains
We lose the human face
