Remembering Mikhail Gorbachev

The good man came

And opened up the world

An iron curtain fell before his smile

He would meet and he would greet

The leaders of the world

And share with them

And go the extra mile

The outside world was thrilled

To see the thaw

The ice of Russia melt

We’ve come so far

But those with vested interest

And those out for the chance

Corrupted what was innocent

Themselves but to advance

His mother and his wife were from Ukraine

His dying days redoubled now the pain

But Gorbachev still hoped for future gain

Please God we’ll see the likes of him again
