In Memoriam: Ian Jack

Anything he wrote I would read

Guardian articles these past fifteen years

Born very near my home

A Lancashire boy till seven

And then to Scotland home

And reared in Fife

A photo of his face was evidence

I want to tell something good and interesting

A concerned expression piercing eyes you see

And yet a man of history and humour

A Scot and proud to be

God rest you Ian Jack

Contemporary

You wrote so well

I loved your stories all

I’ll keep writing

It’s the best thing I can do

Spread the good word

Just like you used to do
