It’s important
To interrogate oneself
And not just live your version of the world
Interrogation wakes us up
A good dig in the ribs
Stirs us to be our better selves
Not living in our fibs
My father in his final years
Sat in his cosy chair
And spoke to me ex cathedra
Without the papal air
That looking out the window
Was no idle stare
But quiet wise reflection
Wise words then to share
Now my morning musing
Is no idle time
I bring into awareness
My family friends and find
My thinking of them gentler
My view of life more kind
Helped by simple questioning
Amazing what you’ll find
