It’s a common meditation
The nation looks on death
And celebrates the dying of the queen
Funerals are occasional
We don’t go every day
But this one makes us stop awhile
Stop and even pray
We share in this one nationally
She belonged to all
A symbol of our unity
Though often there we fall
The girl that died in Clapham
Sarah Everard
And young Sabina Nessa
And a hundred more I’ve heard
Out of sight is out of mind
How often that is true
And we sweep under carpets
What we don’t want to view
These days of common sorrow
Call us now to vow
Our love for life and one another
My reverence for you now
