Scotland is Scotland
Whatever comes to pass
I saw it first in railway stations
Blue not mauve the signs
And look said Chris his English joke
Native settlements!
I looked and saw great haystacks
Is that now what he meant?
I’d like to see a severance
An independent state
Part of the end of empire
At last though coming late
Ireland had to shed its blood
Before its freedom came
And Wales I cannot speak for it
Do they feel the same?
England is a lovely land
Decency lives there
And people there are kind enough
As people anywhere
But power and empire messed with us
We don’t know who we are
Come home to self a little while
And follow a new star
