Deep in Italian mountains
I came upon the scene
A coffin carried on a bier
A medieval dream
A priest Redemptorist at the head
Family close by
A quiet country funeral
Impressive on the eye
Up the Royal mile today
Came the solemn band
A funeral procession
Silence in the land
Reverence for the one now dead
Everyone fall in line
To the great cathedral
Scotland’s time to shine
We processed my father to the church
In his native town
And my mother we processed
The rain was pouring down
But life must pause and think a while
The day of death will come
But the sun came out that funeral day
There’s life when life is done
