I awoke today
Reached for the phone and read
That she had died
A pretty face a redhead
A writer too
I sighed
So young at 51
To lose the gift of life
Loss of sight was also there
But her spirit it burned bright
She leaves behind a husband
Two children very young
And people who remember her
As vibrant and strong
Her writing I find vivid
Lively journalism
Four novels too she leaves behind
Much praised on television
So I add my little token
Of gratitude to her
Her name is Susie Steiner
Perhaps you’ve heard of her
Some live long and some live short
It’s hard to understand
But live it well whichever way
And your memory will stand
