Tell me a story at the end of the day
I’ve had enough of study
Had enough of play
Time to put my feet up
Settle and relax
Tell to me a story
Before we’re making tracks
The ‘seanchai’ in olden times
Talked the night away
And novels read by candlelight
Took us on our way
Now television everywhere
Films on which to feast
Keep us fed with stories
Beauty and the beast
The story helps us see the world
Helps us understand
The why and how and wherefore
The history of our land
I read to my son Michael
Each night he went to bed
The loveliest thing I ever did
Night night to your sweet head
