Home Ground

I knew I lived in a lovely place

For I could see the fields

All around our new estate

Miles and miles and miles

The town sat high upon the hill

Hindsford down below

The railway line from Manchester

Our crescent in the snow

My mother father family

Garden back and front

Our collie dog to cuddle us

School and church and font

Manchester big city

Where our cousins dwell

Always nice to visit them

And coming home as well

Local life a blessing

Library shops and all

And the park to play in

Mind now don’t you fall

Friendly folk who worked in mill

And men all down the mine

Everybody knew you

What is mine is thine

I couldn’t ask for better

Than the childhood that I found

When growing up in Tyldesley

On that dear home ground
