I lived in a country house
A post war semi
Built in famers’ fields
It qualifies
Garden back and front
Green fields all around
A mile from town
I lived in a country house
In London
Thank God for Clapham Common
A vast expanse of green to walk and play
The concentrated clutter of a city
Made bearable by
A space for light of day
I live in a country house
Near Stirling town
A 70s semi on a farmer’s field
A railway running by
Hills that reach the sky
A quiet spot
A quiet country house
Nothing grand
An ordinary dwelling
But set in fields where cattle chewed the cud
And everything is human sized
No city pressure here
Here the pace is gentleness
And life goes as it should
