Vespers in the Vatican

The splendour of Saint Peter’s

Beautiful symmetry

Walls so tall

Man so small

Fitting poetry

I walked through there with Margaret

On our honeymoon

A place I often visited

Trying to be in tune

Now on this holy New Year’s Eve

People gather there

To thank the Lord for everything

To ask again in prayer

Let us learn that every day

Calls on us anew

Arise and greet the Lord of life

He is expecting you

This life is not just passing time

You are on a journey now

To your own Jerusalem

There to keep your vow

Walk the road ahead of you

One day at a time

Give your heart to God in love

Your heart will beat in time
