Yes I too remember Adlestrop
The same as Edward Thomas saw
The day he came and stopped
Surprisingly ‘mong country fields
One day it was in June
In ‘64
A hot day too
And we three on a trip
Father Mythen Chris and I
A break from all our study
Soon exams would demand attention
This an interlude
We saw no train
Nothing there that day
But quiet fields
And birds no doubt
And thoughts of Edward Thomas
Far away
Buried in a foreign field
He lay and left to us
A memory of a day
When a train stopped
And someone coughed
And haycocks standing to attention
Like soldiers in a war
About to die
