Last days of his life
He could not speak
Oxygen not getting to the brain
Confused his words
Made my father meek
But he said my name
When I was brought to tears
To reassure me
Take aware my fears
And taking Mike and Sheila by the hands
He crossed them above his chest
To understand
Take care of one another
Be a sister brother
This his final word
His last command
Final four days silent in the bed
Nothing he could do
Nothing to be said
Except to know that love and kindness
Care
Matters every day
So what so where
The speaking of your name
The holding of your hand
When all is said and done
The one command
