A ‘United Ireland’ always the dream
For many a one like me
But a million Ulster Protestants
Say hold on that cannot be
And many died contesting it
Many a brutal day
God forbid that we forget
And mayhem has its way
But a system rigged to suit one side
Is never bringing joy
And the call for justice interpreted
As a smart sectarian ploy
And so began the killing
The soldiers and the guns
And cruel death throughout the land
Took so many of Ulster’s sons
It’s unity we are looking for
Not uniformity
We are different
And on that we can agree
And a will to make a common life
Be neighbourly and friends
And grow together from that strife
And all our sorrows end
