‘Out of the Blue’ is the name of the tune
They play it every week
At five o’clock on Saturdays
When football scores you seek
Originally written for an air display
A tune to raise your hopes
Did we win or did we lose
Are we on the ropes?
I sat in the coach at Burnley
Waiting to start for home
Always beaten at Turf Moor
Felt a bit forlorn
Fourteen I was on the cusp of life
Wanderers my team
Always wanting them to win
Following a dream
Driver starts the engine
Turns the radio loud
And that faithful tune trills in the air
Whole country a listening crowd
First got played in ‘48
Still now going strong
As old as me and still it says
Come on and join the throng
