A blanket bog
To east and south
The sea to north and west
An isolated people right enough
My mother’s home place – Erris
The land that time forgot
Hardy people friendly people
Tough
An Irish walker – Praeger
Walked the Bangor Trail
And spoke about the feelings that unfold
It makes you feel so tiny
Alone in nature’s grasp
And yet it throws you forward
To be bold
That double feeling
Still alive and well
Has taught the native people how to live
A humble nature faced with
This world’s pain
A courageous heart and generous to give
The beatitudes of Jesus are the same
Advising us be humble and be brave
God bless my forebears dead and gone
Your happy memory lingers on
God bless the land
Beside Atlantic waves
