Feeling tired
I said no walk today
Though it was bright and sunny
What a shame
When the good Lord
Has gone to all this trouble
I stay indoors
As if I’m simply lame
And then I felt closed in
Just like in prison
So out the back
My garden to enjoy
What simple bliss it is
To be outside
To feel fresh breezes
Better than a toy
Then I thought of
Prisoners inside
Those narrow cells
Those narrow prison walls
Bad enough
To get a prison sentence
But the thought of
Narrow confines
Just appals
We’ve never got it right
About offenders
Violence aside
We just don’t care
Out of sight and out of mind
Will do us
What happens after that
We are not aware
But slowly oh so slowly
Mental health
Is creeping up the agenda
For us all
For lockdown has been prison
For so many
The lack of movement
Drives us up the wall
The old adage is still true
‘What the eye doesn’t see
The heart doesn’t grieve over’
So vital then
That prisons should be seen
So Jimmy McGovern’s ‘Time’
Is my agenda
I’ll take a look
Support for the unseen
