England is a troubled land
So many ills beset it
A fair day’s pay for a fair day’s work
Seems we haven’t met it
Yet immigrants still seek our shores
Land of hope and glory
And wealthy folk still rule the roost
This the land of Tory
Lost an empire so we did
Haven’t found a role
Still ruling the neighbours
But haven’t found our soul
Brexit was a cry of pain
Where is England now?
Struggling to know itself
Struggling anyhow
Lovely country gentle folk
When we’re at our best
But arrogant and spiteful
If the Daily Mail’s the test
The monarchy has held us
But maybe not for long
Come home now to yourself
Be humble yet and strong
