Margaret

I had been uprooted from my home

I never could go back

I lived exiled in monasteries

Obedient to that track

And when in summer I got home

My parents for to see

I went back home to Mayo

As happy as could be

Mayo became my paradise

The green and pleasant land

I travelled all its corners

And there I took a stand

This is home and heritage

My mother came from here

My father too his father

An emigrant so dear

And then I met a wee Scots lass

Who turned out Dublin born

Her mammy came from Mayo too

And now I found my home

She waited for me all those years

And then the illness came

But she gave me home and family

And so I bless her name
