A Church

Like Larkin

I do a spot of ‘church going’ these days

Not actual you understand

But via Internet

I visit many places

Sermon hunting too

To see the health of Christendom

In Twenty twenty-two

Little churches I love best

Cosy congregations

Better than those barns they built

For Sunday obligations

Leaven in the dough we are

To help this world along

The church the Lord’s own sitting room

For silence prayer and song

The Lord is present in this place

In sacrament and word

We need the warmth of ritual

The Gospel to be heard

A gathered people unified

Around the altar there

A sacrament and sacrifice

Forever to be shared
