Quiet Afternoons

She’s paid her dues has Hilary

The struggle and the pain

She’s found her way has Hilary

Finally there’s gain

She doesn’t try to impress you

She simply wants to talk

To tell you things she thought about

Shall we go for a walk?

When she speaks you listen

Because it’s not just words

It’s all the thoughts she’s thinking

Worthy to be heard

Thinking is a precious thing

And thoughts deeply pondered

Carry their own true precious ring

Never to be squandered

She doesn’t deal in nastiness

She tells it like it is

Or at least how it appears to her

Once she’s done the quiz

Hours and years of study

Quiet afternoons

Down in Budleigh Salterton

Gone now gone too soon
