Since seeing her in Balmoral
Knowing her time was near
I have followed all proceedings
The coffin and the bier
And all four days at Westminster
Comfy in my chair
I have watched the people passing through
In silence mourning her
When I left the priesthood
I had a problem facing me
I could not stop being who I am
Or what I wished to be
A priest no longer – that was true
Now a family man
But with it all I persevered
Still a preacher man
I write for RP homilies
And other Gospel thoughts
In the field of mediation
Brought the Gospel to the fraught
I changed profession – yes it’s true
My life to rearrange
But I still read and preach the Gospel
That will never change
