Homily In Verse

24th Sunday C

Saul of Tarsus religious thug

His religion ruled him like a drug

The honour of his God was all his care

He didn’t mind who he hurt

Orthodoxy he would assert

Looking out for traitors – who goes there?

A blinding light then cast him down

Which way now into the town?

A helping hand to guide him was his need

And when his vision was restored

A vicious Saul was also cured

New life was given and a brand new creed

The God of mercy we hardly credit

Take the gospel – yeah we’ve read it

But take it up each day and slowly read

The mercy that is shown us there

Is healing for a world of care

Let mercy be your watchword and your creed
