Briefly
Only briefly on the stage
Then he was gone
History turned a page
He smiled and we remembered
His face lit up the room
A warm communicator
Gone – gone too soon
A little girl sat in the square
She listened to him speak
And turning to her father
She gave a joyful shriek
Papa, papa, she said to him
I understood it all
Every word he said to me
Simplicity is all
Today we honour him again
‘Beato’ now we say
Albino Luciani
A light to guide our way
A brother on our journey
A humble man withal
A moment in the spotlight
His life a gift to all
