We Are Not Victims

I have never really liked New Year

Waiting for the bells to chime

Never liked Midnight Mass

Way past my bed time

Midnight hour finds me asleep

Cosy warm in bed

Getting my eight hours in

Night prayers duly said

Enjoyed a party in my youth

Enjoyed a pint of beer

A nip of whisky now and then

Keep a wee dram near

But getting stoshered blutered

Not my aim in life

Though many hit the bottle

When everything is strife

And come the dear Queen’s jubilee

What now is the game?

Opening pubs for longer

Have we got no shame!

Weekend Britain is alcohol

Policing not much fun

Thank God it’s not America

No playing with the gun

Our children need a kinder world

One that’s ours to give

So give them good example

Teach them how to live
