I never went to nightclubs
Never used them
At seminary
Bedtime was at ten
But I recognise the need
For camaraderie
To be in groups
Go out and have some fun
As long as it’s in groups
The night is wholesome
But meeting strangers
That’s a different game
Alone in a crowd
Is stranger danger
And never coming home
A crying shame
In the old days
We talked of parish socials
Meeting people then
A happy time
Getting to know a person
In a company
The personal and the social
Now in rhyme
Individual and anonymous
Is nowhere
Isolated dreams of magic bliss
Far better is the social life
That leads us
To first meetings
To company
And the kiss
