Born when the war was over
On an island in the sea
Surrounded by the ocean
Shipping Forecast protecting me
Safe on a continental shelf
Observer of the world
Tales of diminishing empire
Stories of glory told
American influence clearly
Movies music food
Europe we hardly know you
No English so no good
Now the world is catching up
New Empires appear
Russia China America
England in the rear
UK now a melting pot
Scotland on the rise
Resentment at that London lot
Independence no surprise
So much is good in England
If we can rearrange
And level up the playing field
As that Eton boy has named
Islands should be good neighbours
Promoting one another
And Europe is a neighbour too
And not a source of bother
Islands love their peacefulness
The openness the air
But their very sense of security
Is because the mainland’s there
Never scorn your neighbours
You’ve got them all your days
Learn to live in peace with them
The benefits will amaze
