I’ll Walk

I see my neighbour ‘s had a prang
A car crash
Front all crumpled
Fairly walloped too
I think everyone’s okay
That’s the main thing
But cars! Cars! Cars!
What can you do!

So glad
I’m not driving anymore
The thought of it
Causes me to spin
Headlong rush to hell
All our driving
Everyone ensconced
In their own cell

I don’t deny
The benefit of moving
Boats and trains and trams
Have served me well
And aeroplanes a time or two
Transported me
To places too many now
To tell

But cars
They are our ruination
Too many of them
Going way too fast
Single-minded monsters
Careless now of others
Often change our present
To our past

A young man’s toy the motorcar
– We’ve all been there –
Revving up and down the motorway
We’ve been reduced
To pavement dwellers
Folk just by the way
I am glad I’m one
And one I hope to stay
