The day of Margaret’s funeral
A long and busy day
Funeral car came by and picked me up
My cousin Anthony Flannery
Was with me at the time
Accompanied me to church
And so to pray
Mass so well attended
By all who loved her so
Funeral procession to the grave
Then a funeral breakfast
And people gathered round
Comfortable supporting
Everyone
Day stretched into evening
Dinner in hotel
Cousin Frank and Maureen
Michael too
Then I faced reality
I walked back into town
Found a taxi
Taking me back home
Dark street-lighted evening
Key put in the door
What will this feel like?
So on my own
I felt the old familiar warmth
The house said, ‘Come on in
This is your home
And you are welcome in’
