From childhood days
Echo down the years
Words revealing us
To ourselves
Spoken loud and clear
Affirmation what I sought
When singing for my mum
Wasn’t that a lovely song I asked
Yes she’d say
Lovely song
Tricia too
Immortal words
She uttered – words of iron
When she heard that
Folk were vexing me
‘I’ll fight them for you, Brian’
Sheila was but two years old
When Michael came along
A television added in
To help mum get on song
Suddenly the spotlight switched
She felt it was all wrong
What’s wrong? Mum asked
Enquiringly
What is all this mither?
Don’t like that telly-ision she said
Don’t like that baby either!
And Michael learned the power of words
Didn’t take him long to risk it
Mammy you’ve got a lovely face…
Can I have a chocolate biscuit?
