Michael told me this
We laughed out loud
A lovely image fixed now in the mind
Closing time in Leigh
And coming home
Our Michael finds his father in before him
Michael just beginning at the pint
Daddy well seasoned in that art
Both had been in locals for an hour
Now come home the kitchen where they met
Opening the door
He saw his father
Peering in the fridge to find a bite
Feet apart the cat was curling round him
Tail tickling legs to wait what might
Quietly he watched the old man peering
Comical the old man and the cat
‘Now, Ashley, lets see what we have in here’
