Walking quiet streets
By Clapham Common
Ways I used to go
’71 the year
I came to Clapham
A young man
Dressed in black
Long way to go
At least I got
To walk my roads
Unhindered
Unmolested
Unidentified
Unknown to daily papers
Any newsprint
A simple life I live
And I survived
Women need respecting
That’s our problem
We see them as an object
There for men
Some cultures
Hide them from our viewing
The West can’t get enough
Mature you ken
We have no monopoly
On virtue
Our media likes everything
On show
In family in school
In public places
We need to teach
And all of us need
To grow
