The Quakers have it right
Sit still sit quiet
And let the Spirit come
For come it will
To guide your mind
To quiet gentle places
To soothe the soul
To offer kind embraces
So often we live life
Upon the surface
Skittering around
Here and there
Stop and take a seat
Be still as on retreat
Listen to the silence
In the air
We need some depth
We need to take some soundings
Reflect on self
Examine what we do
Refrain from judging others
Our surface judgements falter
Remember that advice
Another’s shoe
My father in old age
Beside his fireside
His horses picked
Content with mug of tea
Was happy to be quiet
And ponder so I’ll try it
My time of life be wise
And bend the knee
