My nephew John a baker
Has a boat
And when not baking bread
He can be found
Afloat on his boat
Just off Bembridge sound
Guarding approaches
To our land
My brother Michael
Captain for the Day
Alison astern
John at the helm
Rounding Priory Bay
A beer and then away
Home to have a jolly
Barbeque
Not too far away
But long ago
My father, Michael
Sat upon those seas
Something they called Overlord
Bouncing in a breeze
Armada bound for France
St Mere Eglise
Different days and different times
People getting killed
Mown down as they land upon a beach
Today it’s a pandemic
Strikes at everyone
Isolated folk we cannot reach
World War ended
Though it took its toll
Pandemic too
We await a victory roll
But in the meantime
A boat ploughs through the sea
A freedom song
And sourdough for tea
