The Beaten Path

I found a beaten path
So said I’ll follow
The feet of others
Walked this way before
The path a certain sign
It will not me decline
I’ll follow it
To a certain shore

The path led on
I found a place to sit
A wooden bench
Prepared for travellers
A seat beside a railway line
A grandstand seat to view
The passing trains
And passing buses too

The day was warm
I sat there for a while
The view around my seat
To make me smile
A castle I can see
Of noble history
The town below
A walk of just a mile

It’s true I found
A lovely place to be
With Margaret Michael
And all this scenery
A beaten path I followed
A journey ever hallowed
By love’s desire
To reach a destiny
